New school’s guidance erases the existence of trans youth. It also contains a Section 28 style clause designed to prevent schools from being positive about trans lives:
“This guidance gives the green light for transphobia and ushers in a new Section 28, explicitly aimed at the erasure of trans and non-binary young people.‘1
Teachers are prohibited from discussing the concept of gender identity, with the Education Minister stating:
‘Biological sex is the basis of relationship, sex and health education – not these contested views‘.2
As we know from the effects of the original Section 28, this will have a huge impact on the lives of transgender young people, transgender teachers, transgender parents, and the children of transgender parents.3 4
