Trans lives at risk in the UK

In 2015 the UK topped the IGLA list of European countries for LGBTQIA+ rights. Now we are the 22nd,¹ and after the Supreme Court ruling on gender identity, we share the bottom place with Russia and Hungary for gender recognition.²

• The Government have used the recent supreme court judgement to undermine trans people’s legal recognition in the UK.³
• The Judgement makes no mention whatsoever of intersex individuals, throwing into confusion their legal identity and protections.⁴
• The Government has called for trans people to be banned from public toilets across the entire country.
• The Government have made it illegal for trans youth to access puberty blockers even if doctors, the young person and their parents all agree they need them. Instead they are forcing young people to go through ‘conversion practices‘.⁵
• NHS waiting lists for first consultations are measured in years.^{6 7}
• The Government’s new guidance for schools brings back Section 28-style rules.⁸
• The Lemkin Institute says trans people are at risk of cultural genocide in the UK.⁹
• Additionally, Human Rights Watch,¹⁰ experts from the UN,¹¹ and the Council of Europe¹² have also sounded the alarm at the Government’s treatment of trans people.
